Overview

Haru Japanese Restaurant, nestled in the heart of Artarmon at Shop 2/92 Hampden Rd, offers a refined yet inviting take on traditional Japanese cuisine. Specializing in sushi and bento-style meals, this family-owned establishment draws diners seeking authenticity and comfort in equal measure.

The restaurant’s atmosphere is warm and cozy, with an emphasis on cleanliness and a fresh, uncluttered aesthetic. It caters wonderfully to both intimate lunches and casual family dinners. The setting complements the culinary experience—a balance between a modern Japanese eatery and a homely dining space where each dish feels thoughtfully prepared.

Haru’s menu highlights reveal a meticulous curation designed to satisfy varied palates. Signature dishes like the Chicken Katsu Bento Box and the Deluxe Salmon Large demonstrate the kitchen’s command over traditional flavors. The bento boxes stand out for their harmony of components—rice, salad, and sashimi that is consistently fresh and beautifully presented.

For sushi lovers, the selection spans from classic California and Grilled Salmon Rolls to more adventurous offerings such as the Spicy Salmon Roll and Soft Shell Crab Salad. The Baby Roll options—including Cooked Tuna, Cucumber, and Salmon varieties—offer a lighter gluten-free entrée, ideal for those mindful of dietary restrictions.

Entrées feature a spectrum of textures and flavors. The Spicy Edamame and Seaweed Salad provide vegetarian and gluten-free options that are vibrant and satisfying. Meanwhile, the Chicken Karaage and Prawn Gyoza bring a beloved Japanese crispness and depth to the table.

Beyond sushi and bento, Haru subtly integrates Korean influences, evident in dishes like the Korean Kimchi side and the unique tempura preparation praised for its quality oil, delivering a distinct crispiness that sets it apart from other Japanese spots in Sydney.

Patrons often highlight the genuine hospitality and attentive service. The staff’s professionalism enhances the dining experience, making it a standout gem in the Artarmon area. Whether it’s a casual takeaway or a more leisurely dine-in occasion, Haru strikes a perfect balance between accessibility and culinary excellence.

The restaurant appeals to a diverse audience—families, professionals during lunch breaks, and Japanese cuisine enthusiasts exploring authentic flavors beyond the usual fare. It's also convenient for those traveling by car, with ample street parking nearby, though electronic card payments incur a small surcharge to consider.

In summary, Haru Japanese Restaurant offers a thoughtfully curated menu with vibrant, fresh ingredients and a friendly, calming environment. Its fusion of classic Japanese sushi craftsmanship with subtle Korean touches, combined with well-sized portions and genuine service, makes it a must-visit for anyone craving a memorable Japanese dining experience in Artarmon.

One of the cutest hidden gem in sydney. Been to many Japanese restaurants, this place has whole different vibe. Menu is so curated and satisfies all sort of taste buds. My go-to pickup would be their bento box which comes with salad and next level sashimi. Their version of tempura is unique which i guess because of the quality in oil they use. Spicy honey chicken is one such good recommendation for spicy lovers.

Nice and cosy restaurant. We visited during a rainy lunch time, so it was not buzzing as it usually does. Still, a most pleasant atmosphere. Service was great. Food was very nice also. Salmon don buried was delicate yet tasty. Pork katsu looked scrumptious. Husband didn't let me try it, so I can say it was good! Portion sizes were pretty spot on.

There's a delightful Japanese-Korean restaurant that offers a diverse range of mouth-watering dishes that are sure to tickle your taste buds. You'll find all of the classic Japanese favourites such as sushi, sashimi, bento boxes, and curry, but that's not all; this restaurant also serves up some of the most delicious Korean fried chicken you'll ever taste. It's worth noting that if you plan to pay with an electronic card, you'll be charged an additional surcharge. However, you'll be pleased to know that parking is available on the street around the area, so finding a spot shouldn't be an issue.

Honestly the food here is ok, but, compared to other Japanese places in Artarmon it's lacking a little. Rice was cold, a bit hard and not vinegared. Gyoza was deep fried for some reason. Fish was decent but, for the same prices, other shops are better especially next door. Probably better looking for a Japanese run place nearby
